Bridging the Gap Staff Team

The Bridging the Gap staff team is a highly qualified and diverse multi disciplinary team with a wide range of skills, experiences and fields of expertise that allows the men at Bridging the Gap to be supported in the work that they will be undertaking in order to achieve the life they want within the community they will be living in.

The staff team has been trained in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). 


Ann-Marie Ripley


Ann-Marie is a Senior Probation Officer on secondment to Bridging the Gap from the National Probation Service. She trained as a Probation Officer at Nottingham University in 1987 and since qualification has worked in a variety of roles within the Probation Service in London and North Yorkshire. As a Probation manager Ann-Marie has experience in managing an Approved Premises and more recently as SPO for the Offender Management team in Scarborough. 


Julia Coakes


Julia is a Consultant Chartered Clinical Psychologist completing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Leeds University in 2005. Julia undertook her first degree in Psychology at Durham University from 1996-1999. Julia has received additional training in CBT, DBT, EMDR and Systemic Family work. Julia has significant experience working in with outpatients and inpatients who are struggling with: personality disorders, eating disorders; anxiety; depression; OCD; mood difficulties; PTSD; and childhood trauma.

Julia was Clinical Lead for a DBT team in York for 3 years. She also managed the Specialist Community Services in The Tuke Centre, York. Julia is an honorary lecturer at Hull University Clinical Psychology Course teaching on Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Eating Disorders, OCD, Complex PTSD and Survivors of Sexual Abuse, and Inpatient & Advanced CBT. Julia also teaches for Leeds Beckett University on uses of CBT for Eating Disorders and Systemic family work.  Julia also offers training on DBT

Julia has also received additional training in supervision.


Amber Holmes 


Amber is a newly qualified Social Worker having finished her Masters last year; she also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Counselling Studies with work experience in a variety of settings. Amber has worked for The Foxton Centre, a homeless charity working as a Community Social Worker offering intensive daily support to people with complex needs. Her role also included reintegrate offenders back into the community once being released from prison. She has also worked for the YMCA/Princes Trust with 16-25 year olds from disadvantaged backgrounds giving them opportunities to change their futures and has also worked at St. Annes Community Services as a Mental Health Outreach Support Worker supporting clients in the community.


Brad Harrison


Brad has been working for Community links since 1997, starting initially in a residential project. More recently he has been working in the community as a Mental Health Housing Support Working, working extensively with dual diagnosis and personality disorder.  He has always had an interest in prison work and is now enjoying working into prisons. He has a Certificate in Mental Health from Leeds Beckett University. He has also completed Motivational Interviewing and DBT skills workshops.


Kerry Mainprize


Kerry has  a degree in Counselling and Therapeutic studies and has a real interest in working with offenders in prison or in the community. "I am really pleased to be working for Bridging the Gap as I feel the service provides a remarkable support network for offenders who suffer from PD. I hope to further my understanding of the therapy we provide."
